A French composer born into a Jewish intellectual family. He studied composition with Nicolas Bernier, choirmaster of Sainte-Chapelle. Many of his works are for harpsichord, but they can also be performed on violin, flute, or oboe.
D'Aquin also worked as an organist and harpsichordist. He is said to have performed before the King at the age of six. Two years later, he conducted his own work, Le Bienheureux (The Blessed One), for large chorus with string ensemble, in a church. At the age of 12, he was appointed organist of the Church of Petit Saint-Antoine. Subsequently, he served as organist for the King, after holding positions at Saint-Paul Church and the Cordeliers.
A biography of D'Aquin exists, praising his music and character; however, it was written by his son, and contains occasional passages that excessively laud his father, thus requiring caution when used as a source. Nevertheless, he was an excellent musician who neither went against the musical trends of his time nor disappointed those who gathered in churches.
