Dutch composer. Born in Indonesia, he moved to the Netherlands at a young age. From his early works, he incorporated hexatonic and octatonic scales, as well as microtones. He began composing self-taught while working as an assistant in paleontology and historical geology at his alma mater, Delft University of Technology. Subsequently, he studied composition with Pijper and successively gained acclaim for his Symphony No. 1 and Symphony No. 2. This prompted him to teach music in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and he also served as director of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and professor at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts. He also traveled to the United States and South Africa for lectures. The evolution of Badings's compositional style, who excelled in creating orchestral works, can be discerned from his oeuvre. He also composed radio operas, winning the Prix Italia in 1954 for Orestes.
