German composer. He received his initial musical training from his father, who was a composer and organist. His older brother also became a composer; the brother played the violin, while Pixis, the second son, played the piano. He gained fame as a pianist through concert tours with his brother, though Pixis himself was also capable of playing the violin and cello.
At the turn of the 19th century, his family moved to Vienna. There, Pixis met Beethoven, Meyerbeer, and Schubert. He later moved to Paris, where he encountered Heine, Cherubini, Moscheles, Liszt, Berlioz, and Rossini. In Paris, he established his reputation as a virtuoso and also worked as a piano educator. He spent his later years in Baden-Baden.
The majority of his compositions are piano works, including both concert pieces and smaller salon pieces.
