An American female composer and pianist, born in New Hampshire. She began her musical career as a child prodigy pianist. After her marriage in 1885, she focused on composition, partly due to her husband's wishes, but resumed her performing career after his death in 1910. She enhanced her reputation by undertaking successful concert tours in Europe. She is considered the first American woman to compose a symphony, and in her later years, she assumed a leading role as an elder stateswoman among women musicians. Notably, during her lifetime, she signed her name as Mrs. H.H.A. Beach. This is also the name under which her published scores appeared.
