British composer. He composed works for piano and orchestra, such as Phantasy for Piano and Orchestra (1931), and Phantasy Piano Quartet (1910), as well as solo piano pieces, operas, and symphonic poems. He studied composition with Stanford at the Royal College of Music in London. After graduation, alongside his compositional activities, he also performed as a violist in chamber music. After World War I, he produced works strongly inclined towards chromaticism and those employing sophisticated contrapuntal techniques. He also tutored Britten.
