Italian composer. One of the most important opera composers of the 19th century.
Born into a musical family in Catania. He received his first piano lessons from his father in his early childhood and mastered the instrument by the age of five. From the age of seven, he studied composition with his grandfather. During this period, he composed sacred music, ariettas, and instrumental pieces.
In 1819, with the support of the city of Catania, he went to Naples to study the works of masters of the Neapolitan School, as well as instrumental music by Haydn and Mozart. After graduating from the Naples Conservatory, he wrote the opera Il pirata for La Scala in Milan in 1827, achieving success. Collaborating with Romani, who wrote the libretto for this opera, he subsequently produced numerous masterpieces such as La sonnambula and Norma.
In 1833, he gained popularity by staging several operas in London. In the same year, he achieved success at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris. During this period, he became close with figures such as Rossini and Chopin. In 1835, I puritani received great acclaim.
Bellini never held any official positions, such as a music school teacher or opera house music director, spending his entire life as an opera composer. He died at the young age of 33 in Puteaux, near Paris, in 1835.
