Mexican composer. He composed symphonic poems, violin concertos, as well as piano pieces, songs, and guitar works. His compositional style initially aligned with Romanticism, gradually incorporating ethnic elements in a modern fashion. In his teens, he joined the church choir in Aguascalientes and also served as an organist. After studying at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, he pursued further studies in Italy and Germany. Upon his return, he worked as a pianist and composer while also teaching music. In later years, he visited Europe again and met Dukas in Paris. In 1933, he was appointed professor of piano at his alma mater, the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, and also served as interim director.
