Belgian composer. He studied at the Liège Conservatory, and in 1898, he won the Belgian Prix de Rome, which led him to further his studies in Berlin, Munich, and Paris. In Paris, he met Vincent d'Indy and Gabriel Fauré. Subsequently, he was appointed professor at the Brussels Conservatory and also served as conductor of the Concerts Spirituels. Later, he also served as director of the Brussels Conservatory.
