About the Author of the Bastien Method
Author of the Bastien Method, which has been translated into over a dozen languages worldwide and boasts the highest sales among piano methods in the United States.
Biography and Contributions
She began piano at age three, graduated from Stephen University and Barnard College, and subsequently completed her master's degree at the prestigious Columbia University Graduate School in the East. She has also been active as a pianist, appearing in music festivals, recitals, and radio programs. She served as an instructor for piano courses on educational television and also taught at Tulane University. She opened a piano studio in California and, together with her husband James, composed numerous pieces essential for instruction for their students, leading to the publication of over 200 types of piano texts. The couple established their unique method, and their teaching workshops are held worldwide. From the Bastien lineage, many outstanding pianists have emerged, including first-prize winners in national competitions, concerto performers with orchestras, and those who teach at music universities.
Educational Philosophy
Ms. Bastien's unique educational philosophy, which she articulates as "The true joy of being a piano teacher is being able to connect with each individual through music, nurturing students who love music even if they lack talent, and discovering and drawing out students' talents," remains vibrant today as she interacts with 60 students per week.
