Tibor Harsányi was a Hungarian composer active in France. He studied with Kodály at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest and also with Bartók. Before moving to Paris, he was active in the Netherlands for several years. Harsányi engaged with music not only as a composer but also as a pianist and conductor. Shortly after moving to Paris, his compositional style shifted towards Neoclassicism. He received the Prix Italia for his radio opera Fantôme. His Viola Sonata, a commissioned work from French Radio, was a late-period composition, and he passed away before its premiere.
He also served as a professor of composition at the École Normale, substituting for Honegger.
