A Belgian composer. He began composing almost entirely self-taught, with the exception of music theory and elementary harmony. In 1889, he was awarded the Prix de Rome at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels for his cantata Le Mont Sinaï (Mount Sinai). He served as a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, and as an inspector of music education. In 1925, he founded the Revue Musicale Belge (Belgian Music Journal). He also worked as a music critic, with his contributions appearing in newspapers and magazines. In 1913, he authored Le tutti orchestral (The Orchestral Tutti), and in 1919, he also wrote a treatise on harmony.
