German composer, music theorist, and organist. The surname Karg-Elert was adopted by him, combining his father's surname with his mother's maiden name.
Although he did not receive formal musical education, his talent was recognized in the choir of St. John's Church in Leipzig, where he received his initial musical instruction from the cantor. He studied composition and piano but interrupted these studies to become a teacher. He later taught himself composition and orchestration until he became a scholarship student at the Leipzig Conservatory.
Reinecke and others, graduating from the Conservatory in 1902, and took up a teaching position at the Magdeburg Conservatory. However, he soon resigned and returned to Leipzig to continue composing.Grieg,Busoni,Reger he produced numerous works for various instruments, including harmonium (reed organ), organ, and piano.
In 1915, he was conscripted into World War I and served in a military band. He was demobilized in 1919 and Reger's successor. From 1931 to 1932, he undertook a concert tour of America sponsored by the Willis Organ Company. He died in Leipzig in 1933.
