Born in Shaodong County, Hunan Province, China. Composer, music theorist, and educator.
In 1931, he enrolled in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied under Huang Zi.
Numerous works were published by Ryuginsha (Tokyo).
From 1949 to 1984, he served as President of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He also held positions as a member of the Arts Education Committee of the Ministry of Education, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Musicians' Association.
Awards
In 1934, he won first prize in the "Chinese Style Piano Works Competition" organized by Alexander Tcherepnin.
