Born in Shanghai, China. After graduating from the Affiliated High School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, they completed the Piano Department of the same university. They studied under Ma Sisun and Fan Jisen. They completed a master's program in Composition at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and from 1981 to 1984, went to the United States to serve as a visiting professor in the Department of Music at the University of Missouri. After returning to China, they took up a teaching position at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. They have held piano concerts nationwide and are known for their improvisational piano compositions and performances.
