Composed for a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth, planned by Zen-On Music Company. Sections from Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel and Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No. 1 are incorporated as thematic material, alongside parts of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Symphony No. 15. In the year of Shostakovich's birth, Rimsky-Korsakov composed the opera The Golden Cockerel, which implicitly criticized the political regime of the time. After Shostakovich's death, perestroika began, and dissident composers rose to prominence. This short piece illustrates how his life was intertwined with the Soviet Union during this period. Musically, it is jocular.
Duration: Approximately 5 minutes.
