Completed the Master's program in Music at Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. While enrolled, studied composition under Teruyuki Noda and Toshiro Mayuzumi. In 1982, selected for the Today's Music International Composition Competition. In 1983, awarded 2nd prize in the composition division of the Music Competition of Japan (1st prize vacant). From 1983, formed and was active in the dōjin group "Sannen Kessha" (Three-Year Society) with Toshiro Nakagawa, Nao Kukiyama, Akemi Naito, and others who gathered around Yoshio Hachimura. Moved to Hokkaido in 1986. Gained recognition in 1988 for Tatoereba... no Chūkai (Annotation of 'For Example...'), a work for orchestra with solo harp, premiered at a concert co-hosted by the Japan Society for Contemporary Music and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra (selected for the Asia Music Festival in 2003). Participated in the Pan-Pacific Composers' Conference in 1990. In 1991, the premiere of Saishoku Keikaku V (Coloration Plan V) for orchestra was highly acclaimed, earning the Muramatsu Prize.
In 1992, received the Agency for Cultural Affairs Award for Artistic Excellence for Yorokobashiki Chishiki no Hanazono Ib (The Garden of Joyful Knowledge Ib) for three soloists and three groups.
In the same year, invited to Japan Music Week '92 in Cologne along with Joji Yuasa, Mamoru Fujieda, and others, where Hiru II (Day II) for chamber ensemble was premiered as a commissioned work, and he gave a lecture on his own compositions. Subsequently, invited to several music festivals and other events. In 2001, Obi / Ittai Nani o Omoitsuita? (Sash / What on Earth Did You Come Up With?) (1998) for three instruments was selected for the ISCM World Music Days.
Furthermore, in the following year, 2002, Nihonsei Rossignol (Japanese Nightingale) (1994) for eight performers was also selected. Currently, serves as an Associate Professor at Hokkaido University of Education, Iwamizawa Campus, guiding younger generations. He is a board member of the Japan Society for Contemporary Music, President of the Hokkaido Composers Association, and a member of the Japan Federation of Composers.
