While regular sequences occupy a significant portion overall, the fact that the phrase structure from the beginning of the piece exhibits an imbalanced 4(5)+7 pattern is characteristic of Scarlatti's strong tendency to reject facile regularity (Measure 5 possesses a dual nature, serving simultaneously as the resolution of the dominant chord and the starting note of the subsequent sequence). The seamless flow of the music is created by the connection of preceding and succeeding formal units through leading-tone progressions and similar means. From measures 39 and 113, the alternation between the dominant and tonic notes is repeated on the strong beats in the lowest register of the piece, emphasizing the keys that conclude the first and second halves.
