It is characterized by an asymmetrical formal structure.

In the opening, the seventh of the dominant chord in measure 4 does not resolve downwards; instead, an ascending motif is repeated, making the phrase 5 measures long instead of the usual 4.

Subsequently, the periodic structure in two-measure units, expected from the harmonic changes and the melodic correspondence in measures 6 and 8, does not appear; instead, measure 9 marks the beginning of a new phrase in three-measure units.

The latter half also contains asymmetrical phrases, such as the opening phrase (1+6=7); however, upon closer examination, sections with two-measure periodicity increase compared to the first half, and the formal irregularity is reduced.
