It is well known that Johann Strauss II, also known as the "Waltz King," and Grünfeld, who was active as a pianist and educator, had a very close relationship, as evidenced by the former's dedication of the piano score of Frühlingsstimmen (Voices of Spring), Op. 410, to the latter.

This work, composed based on various waltz motifs by Strauss, can be regarded as a homage to him.

The main works by Strauss that are paraphrased are as follows:

• The waltz from the end of Act 2 of the operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat): This is the main motif used throughout the piece. It also appears as a counter-subject when other motifs, such as those listed below, emerge (e.g., the left hand from measure 156).
• The second waltz from Künstlerleben (Artist's Life), Op. 316: measures 139–172 (original key: C major)
• The third waltz from Wein, Weib und Gesang (Wine, Women and Song), Op. 333: measures 173–201 (original key: D minor)
• The first waltz from Cagliostro-Walzer (Cagliostro Waltz), Op. 370: measures 237–279 (original key: C major)
