This work was created, inspired by Keigo Higashino's novel Byakuyakō (Journey Under the Midnight Sun). I began reading Byakuyakō, drawn by its plot synopsis (which I learned through hearsay) depicting a girl and a boy whose lives are destroyed by their parents. Around that time, as I was composing music for Yohojin Kibe's poem 'Akashi' (Testimony), feeling haunted by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident, I felt as if I could hear that very music within Byakuyakō. It was through this process that I requested a poem from Mr. Kibe. Byakuya Shishū (Midnight Sun Poetry Collection) consists of four poems. The final piece, 'Byakuya' (Midnight Sun), is based on 'Akashi'.
