Profile
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1966.
He studied composition under Akira Ifukube and Nobuo Terahara. He became familiar with guitar and lute from his youth.
He has numerous works, primarily for 25-string koto and string instruments.
At the age of fourteen, he was deeply impressed by Akira Ifukube's "Sinfonia Tapkaara" at a concert and decided to pursue composition. After self-study, he began studying under Akira Ifukube and Nobuo Terahara around the age of twenty. His works began to be performed from 1990. In 1991, his 20-string koto piece "Sekibetsu" (Farewell) was premiered by Reiko Kimura. His "BALLADE" for guitar was selected for the 33rd Takei Award (1992).
"Kikyoku" (Capriccio) for two 25-string kotos, premiered in 1994 (performed by Keiko Nosaka and Michiko Takita), was broadcast on NHK-FM the following year. In both 1994 and 1995, his choral ode "The Old Fisherman's Poem" was performed at the "Peace and Love" concerts held at Tomin Hall.
In 1996, "Eglogue" was re-performed by G. Feigin (Vn.) and E. Ashkenazy (Pf.). In 1997, "CAPRICE" for 25-string koto and chamber orchestra received its world premiere under the baton of Serge Comissiona.
Furthermore, in 1999, his arrangement of Akira Ifukube's "Japanese Suite" for koto quintet was premiered. He also premiered "Sho" (Pine), a celebratory orchestral piece, conducting it himself. From the same year until 2001, he composed a commissioned trilogy for the Tokyo Shakuhachi Ensemble. In September 2005, "Festive Rondo No. 2" was premiered by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band. From 2007, he participated in the poetry and music society "Trotta no Kai," where his song "Tatsu Tori wa" (Birds Taking Flight), dedicated to Akira Ifukube, was premiered. While continuing to compose a wide variety of works, including commissioned pieces for flute ensembles, his Japanese traditional music works, among others, are frequently re-performed.
He is a member of the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC).
