This concerto for three pianos was composed in February 1776 in Salzburg for Countess Antonia Lodron, with whom Mozart had a close relationship, and her two daughters. Hence, it is affectionately known as "Lodron" Concerto. In this work, perhaps due to the soloists' technical abilities, the third piano is written in a manner that accompanies the other two, with few virtuosic exchanges or independent statements. Consequently, Mozart later arranged it as a concerto for two pianos. Nevertheless, there is, of course, joy in performing it as a trio. During his subsequent journey to Mannheim and Paris, Mozart himself had opportunities to enjoy performing it with friends and to present it at private concerts.

Cadenzas by Mozart himself for the first and second movements have been preserved.

First Movement: Allegro

F major, 4/4 time. Concerto-sonata form. As befits a concerto composed for a mother and her two daughters, it consists of a joyful theme in F major and light passages, but the minor keys that appear midway through also convey a high level of musicality.

Second Movement: Adagio

B-flat major, 4/4 time. Concerto-sonata form. A slow movement with a warm theme. The melody is primarily handled by the first and second pianos, while the third piano plays a supportive accompaniment.

Third Movement: Rondo. Tempo di Menuetto

F major, 3/4 time. Rondo form. An elegant and lighthearted rondo theme in the style of a minuet begins, led by the pianos. This movement also develops primarily around the first and second pianos, but when the rondo theme finally returns, the third piano at last joins in, being allowed to trace the melody a third below for a mere four measures.
