A short piece, less than a minute long, with a peculiar texture.

Its musical character seems to have been drawn directly from the composer's own emerging ideas, and as the title suggests, short ostinatos guide the melody as if tracing memories. It begins calmly, and a different motif briefly emerges, dipping into a minor key, but the aforementioned ostinato soon begins to develop intensely. Yet, it abruptly ceases, deliberately returning to the opening phrase, and the piece concludes.

While certainly not an outstanding work within Janáček's catalog, coupled with the fact that he passed away in the year this piece was written, it possesses a deeply impressive character.
