Rondo Vivace
G major. 2/2 time. Rondo form. The second movement concluded on the tonic chord of E minor (E-G-B), from which, without pause, it flows into this movement with the tonic chord of C major (C-E-G), sharing common tones. Furthermore, the repeated E notes at the opening are reminiscent of the repeated B notes at the opening of the first movement. The atmosphere shifts dramatically from the slow movement, and the rondo theme, characterized by dotted rhythms, is played with a sense of dynamism. While the lively rondo theme features disjunct motion, the secondary theme is based on conjunct motion and possesses a more melodic and cantabile character. Similar to the first movement, Beethoven left a written cadenza (35 measures) for this movement.
