Profile
Founded in 1956. Founding conductor: Akio Watanabe.
It conducts its activities based on three pillars: "Orchestra Concerts," "Regional Activities," and "Education Programs." Concerts are performed primarily by its strong lineup of conductors, including Principal Conductor Pietari Inkinen, Conductor Laureate and Artistic Advisor Alexander Lazarev, Conductor Laureate Honorary Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Resident Conductor Kazuki Yamada, and Music Partner Tomomi Nishimoto, thereby "disseminating culture through music."
Since April 2011, it has initiated the volunteer activity "Music for Disaster-Stricken Areas." As of the end of May 2018, 236 performances have been counted, and the activity is still ongoing. With a focus on fostering a culture of "closeness to people" and "warmth," exemplified by parent-child concerts (summer holiday concerts) that have continued for over 40 years and Kyushu tours covering all prefectures in Kyushu, the orchestra aims to leverage the diverse power of music for the benefit of all people, generations, and regions in society.
