This is an Adagio in C minor, with an opening tutti reminiscent of a French Overture, creating a solemn impression. From bar 6 onwards, decrease the volume and differentiate the soprano and alto voices. From here, it is a descending sequence in two-bar units; however, the A natural in bar 12 raises the tension, so a diminuendo from bar 6 is not necessarily required. Dynamics can be applied freely. Bar 14 is a cadence, and C minor continues thereafter, but the appearance of F-sharp in bar 17 leads to a modulation to G minor. From bar 20, a slight increase in tempo will smooth the flow. This is because the arpeggio beginning in bar 20 continues without interruption until bar 32, with the tension continuously rising throughout. Therefore, start from pp at bar 20, gradually increase the volume from there, and without stopping the sixteenth notes, reach the cadence at bar 33.
