The dedication on the title page of the published score reads: "In memory of Aunt Vera (Marie Vivian Schlegel Carpenter), who dearly loved New Orleans." The consistent warmth and nostalgic mood throughout the collection are established by this dedication. Rocerol himself was born and raised in New Orleans, and his affection for this birthplace of jazz is as deep as his aunt's. The clear articulation of each piece's style (blues, ballad, swing, gospel, ragtime, spiritual) is superb. This is his first original album entirely composed in jazz styles, departing from classical music. Consequently, it is meticulously crafted with attention to detail, and it is commendable that the difficulty is kept to around Czerny 30, anticipating a wide range of players (with the exception of the ragtime pieces, which have challenging left-hand leaps). These are truly well-written pieces; even without special jazz knowledge, playing them faithfully according to the score will make them sound authentic. They are meant to be enjoyed casually.
