The seventh piece of the twelve preludes (two of which remain unpublished), composed in 1931.
It bears the subtitle “Palms made of stars.” Among the preludes, it is relatively frequently performed on stage. In 4/4 time, with no key signature. The opening section, marked Deciso, delivers a powerful impact with the intensity of scattering fireworks. The subsequent pp chromatic descending figure creates an effect as if one is seeing the afterimage of light. The middle section is marked Molto tranquillo – Poco più mosso ma sempre dolce. Above the texture woven by sixteenth notes, the melody that unfolds reveals a mystical, cosmic world. Notes clashing with melodic dissonance, and tearing, impactful sounds. However,
the light emitted by each of these individual notes is strong and beautiful, and amidst a taut tension, it captivates the listener's heart and does not let go. The standard performance time is approximately 3 minutes.
