Composed with the significance of a requiem dedicated to the composer's beloved daughter, Mariko, who passed away suddenly in September 1987. It was composed in January 1988 for shakuhachi solo and premiered by Mr. Teruhisa Fukuda on January 27 of the same year at the "BANQUET'88 Exhibition" held at the Shinjuku Bunka Center Small Hall. In 2004, an adapted version for flute solo was created. It received the "Excellence Award" at the "Exhibition of Japanese Music ~ Composition Award" organized by Shido Music Planning. In 2023, a version for clarinet was created, and the clarinet version was premiered by Mami Suetsugu on September 20, 2024, at the PTNA Public Recording Concert. While the shakuhachi and flute versions involved instrument changes, the clarinet version can be performed without such changes. The original shakuhachi version is published by Mother Earth.
Performance time: approximately 15 minutes 30 seconds. It consists of five movements, with movements 1-2 and 4-5 specified to be performed continuously. It culminates in the 4th movement, transitioning directly into the 5th movement with the same momentum. This unstable state of emotional turmoil continues with the same momentum until the middle of the 5th movement. In the latter half, enlightenment is attained, tranquility is restored, and a short requiem (a deformation of the opening of the 1st movement) is played, quietly concluding the piece as if bidding farewell to an ascension and offering a prayer.
