The original title "KIND IM EINSCHLUMMERN" is precisely the same as one of the pieces in Schumann's Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), as you may know. Schumann's Kinderszenen was composed in 1838, but Granados wrote this piece in 1888, making it undoubtedly a consciously chosen title. This work also includes pieces titled "Beethoven?" and "Wagner," offering a glimpse into the youthful playfulness of Granados. Granados frequently employs quite distinctive harmonic progressions, and in this piece, many may find the harmonic progression in measure 13 perplexing. The bass note on the first beat of measure 13 could very well be F natural, but even if that were the case, the harmonic transitions over the four measures from measure 13 are remarkably rapid. When practicing, it is advisable to play slowly and meticulously to fully perceive the sonorities and strive to clearly articulate the harmonic transitions.
