Composed in 1983 at the request of Shirley Harris. Harris had spent ten years researching teaching methods for piano students with disabilities. This work was commissioned by Edwards while she was compiling "Piano Music for One Hand," to be published by Allans Music Australia.
It consists of three untitled short pieces in a fast-slow-fast tempo scheme. Although composed for the right hand only, the range is relatively wide, spanning two octaves in each piece. It possesses a modal sound. The pieces adopt time signatures of 8/8 (3+2+3), 3/4-6/8, and 3/4-6/8 respectively, creating an enjoyable sense of fluctuation within a stable meter. The composer states, "Although written for the right hand, the difficulty is high, and a good balance between the melody and accompaniment parts needs to be achieved. Performers who can use their left hand are encouraged to use it freely."
