Born in Tokyo in 1969. He studied composition with Akira Miyoshi, Franco Donatoni, and Sandro Gorli, and conducting with Emilio Pomarico and Morihiro Okabe. He is active in both conducting and composition in Japan and Europe. His works have been commissioned by festivals such as Milano Musica and Venice Biennale, as well as by the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus, Tajimi Children's Chorus, Bruno Canino/Hiroaki Ooi Duo, Sawako Yasue, and Kuniko Kato, and have been performed at various venues including the Venice Biennale, Zagreb Biennale, Milano Musica, Eclat Festival, Angelica Festival Bologna, Tokyo Summer Festival, and Takefu International Music Festival. As a conductor, he has been active with various ensembles and orchestras including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Arena di Verona, Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Ensemble Modern Orchestra, Klangforum Wien, Nieuw Ensemble, and Contrechamps. He has been based in Milan since 1995, when he moved to Italy as a recipient of a scholarship from the Italian government. He currently teaches at the Milan Conservatory.
