Born in Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1968. Self-taught in composition. He was selected for the Japan Society for Contemporary Music (Gen-On) Composition Newcomer Award in 1988 and 1989, and received the Akiyoshidai International Composition Award in 1996. His works have been performed at various music festivals, including Arsenale Musica and Angelica Festival (Italy); Middelburg Contemporary Music Week, Groningen Japan Week, and Gaudeamus Music Week (Netherlands); Saskatchewan Contemporary Music Week (Canada); Darmstadt Summer Course (Germany); Melbourne Festival (Australia); ISCM World Music Days 2001 (Yokohama); ACL Asian Music Festival 2003 (Tokyo); Akiyoshidai Summer; and Tongyeong International Music Festival 2009 (Korea). These performances have been given by ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik, Ensemble Nomad, and Art Respirant. He has also received commissions from various music festivals, performers, performing groups, and broadcasting stations, including the Akiyoshidai International 20th Century Music Seminar & Festival, Beethoven-Haus Chamber Music Hall (Germany), Takefu International Music Festival, Klangspuren 2002 (Austria), Tachikawa Performing Arts Festival, and Voxmana. He withdrew from the doctoral program in the Graduate School of Humanities, Tokyo Metropolitan University, and holds a Ph.D. in Psychology.
