With the outbreak of World War I, he gradually became involved in political activities. Following efforts such as establishing a relief fund for the Polish people and participating in the independence movement, he was appointed Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Poland in 1919. Even after returning to his musical career, he actively participated in social movements, including supporting young composers. When Poland was invaded, he returned to the United States.
