Born in Regensburg, Germany, he moved to Paris at the age of 26 and died in Beaulieu, Marolles-en-Hurepoix. His major work includes the ballet music “La Péri”, but he is primarily known for his pedagogical piano pieces, Op. 100, 105, and 109. In Paris, he was active as a salon musician and educator. In Europe, the name Burgmüller typically refers to his father, Johann August Franz, or his brother, Norbert. In Japan, however, he is widely renowned as the composer of “25 Études faciles et progressives, Op. 100”, a foundational work for piano learners. As its long-standing popularity demonstrates, Op. 100 demands refined and efficient technique along with rich expressive power, marking a significant achievement in the history of piano pedagogy.
