Born in Bologna, Italy. Having studied in Moscow under Rimsky-Korsakov, a master of orchestration, he inherited that tradition and left behind a legacy of brilliant orchestral works. His "Roman Trilogy"—comprising Fountains of Rome, Pines of Rome, and Roman Festivals—is particularly renowned. While known for his beautiful melodies and rich orchestration, during his time as a professor at the conservatory in Rome, he was also involved in the revival of Italian classical instrumental music, producing a body of works characterized by a serene atmosphere, often incorporating church modes.
