A French composer. He studied piano with Yves Nat, harmony with Charles Koechlin, and composition with Charles Gédalge in Paris. In his early twenties, he converted to Catholicism and was ordained. As a Benedictine novice, he also engaged in the study of Gregorian chant. In addition to a brief period of military service, he also served as a military chaplain. Following his conversion, as his research into Gregorian chant progressed, modes became central to his work, and dissonant intervals were frequently employed.
