Works composed during his time at the Warsaw Conservatory. It consists of the following four short pieces:
No. 1 Prelude in B-flat minor
This piece expresses his love for his first beloved, Maria Morawska. The harmonies in B-flat minor at the beginning and end of the piece are melancholic. While the writing is simple, beautiful counterpoint shines through its simplicity. The performance time is approximately 2 and a half minutes.
No. 2 Humoresque in G minor
In G minor. It possesses a Schumann-esque humor. This capricious work uses wide intervals, with scenes unfolding rapidly. While the writing frequently employs ostinato, it creates a unique charm by blending various elements such as octaves and unisons. The performance time is approximately 2 and a half minutes.
No. 3 Mazurka in B minor
In B minor. The folk-like melody, utilizing the Lydian mode, is striking. The performance time is slightly over 1 minute.
No. 4 Prelude in F minor
Composed in ternary form. The valiant rhythm is impressive. It is composed as a canon, reminiscent of Schumann's Symphonic Etudes. The performance time is approximately 1 minute.
