A leading pianist of the 20th century.
However, he did not originally aspire to be a pianist.
He stated, "I wanted to be a composer, but after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1920, my father lost everything, and I decided to take on piano recitals to help support the family."
In addition to his compositions, he also produced many arrangements, all of which are extremely brilliant and fully utilize his virtuosity.
