French pianist and composer, he studied under Marmontel at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1887, he succeeded his teacher. He produced notable students such as Élie Risler, Alfred Cortot, Yves Nat, and Robert Casadesus. His pure and elegant pianism captivated many composers, and numerous masterpieces were dedicated to Diémer, including Franck's Symphonic Variations, Saint-Saëns's Rhapsodie d'Auvergne, and his Piano Concerto No. 5, 'Egyptian'. He also dedicated himself to the revival of French classical music and the harpsichord, producing numerous piano pieces, chamber music, songs, as well as arrangements and edited scores. His own compositions are not performed at all today.
